Scope of Service

The department provides pharmaceutical care services to patients of all ages while they are receiving treatment at Lompoc Hospital. A lesser, but not unimportant, function of the department is to provide consultative services to the Convalescent Care Center.

The purpose of pharmaceutical care is to improve patient outcomes while optimizing resource utilization. To this end, Pharmacy Services has two overarching foci - clinical services and pharmacy operations. For clinical services, pharmacists apply pharmaceutical care principles to patient care by serving as an expert resource for physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals.

Additionally, pharmacists monitor the efficacy of current pharmacotherapy by assessing patient response and reviewing laboratory results.

Operationally, the department's primary goal is the safe, accurate and timely delivery of pharmaceutical products to the patient by optimizing the systems, processes and logistics of departmental function.

Staffing in the pharmacy is available from 0630 to 1700 on weekdays and from 0730 to 1500 on weekends and major holidays. During off-hours, medications ordered are provided by the House Supervisor. If further assistance is needed, the Pharmacy Director is contacted.

Mission Statement

The Lompoc Healthcare District Clinical Laboratory is dedicated to providing timely, high quality, cost-effective laboratory testing for physicians and supporting care givers for the purpose of diagnosing and treating human disease.

Scope of Service

The Clinical Laboratory of Lompoc Healthcare District is a California licensed and JACHO certified facility providing comprehensive diagnostic laboratory procedures. The laboratory utilizes ?State of the Art? technology and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by licensed laboratory staff.

Outpatient phlebotomy is available Monday - Friday from 0800 - 1630 at Valley Medical Group and from 0730 - 1700 at the hospital laboratory.

The standards and guidelines followed by the laboratory meet or exceed those set by JACHO and governed by the State of California and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.

Mission Statement

The Perioperative Department is a team of licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel who deliver optimal, compassionate, appropriate and cost-effective care to inpatients and outpatients requiring surgical interventions. Care begins with preparation for surgery and continues until the patient is discharged or transferred to the appropriate level of care.

Scope of Service

The Perioperative/Surgery Department serves patients of all ages who require surgical intervention and non-invasive procedures. The department assesses the patient's care needs through care planning that is age specific. The scope and complexity of patients' care needs met by the Perioperative Department include minor and major surgical procedures, assisting with pain management, and endoscopic procedures. The department utilizes contracted technical support for lithotripsy, pacemaker insertions, radiologic procedures and Anesthetics. Staffing in the department consists of RN's, ORT's, & Anesthetists/Anesthesiologists who are available from 5:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with on-call coverage provided after hours 7 days/week.

The level of care and services provided meet our patients needs by providing all surgical procedures excluding major cardiovascular and neurovascular procedures. The standards &/or practice guidelines utilized by this department include AORN, ASPAN, JCAHO, Title 22, OSHA, and our department Policy and Procedure Manual.
