Preparing for Your Baby's Arrival

Pre-Registration

We encourage expectant mothers to pre-register at least eight weeks before their due date. This allows us to verify insurance coverage and discuss payment options. If you have questions about pre-registration, call 805-737-3300.

Take a Tour

To get acquainted with our facilities, schedule a guided tour of our OB Unit at (805) 737-3395. The tour includes information on where to enter the hospital and OB unit, visiting hours, nursery space, and infant security measures for newborn safety.

Visitor Guide

We value the importance of family and friends in celebrating your new addition. During labor, mothers may have two support people in the LDRP suite. All visitors must wear masks, and we recommend limiting visitors during daily Quiet Time (2-4 pm).

What to Bring to the Hospital

While we provide everything you need for your stay, you may want to bring personal items such as toiletries, clothing, and supplies for your newborn.

Support Classes

We offer pre- and post-delivery classes and support, including childbirth preparation courses, breastfeeding support, and a Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group.

Birth Certificates

It is essential to start thinking about your baby's name. At LVMC, the birth clerk will visit you after delivery to help begin the process of completing the necessary paperwork and requesting a birth certificate. You can download the forms and fill in as much as possible before your hospital stay. You will leave LVMC with a complimentary birth certificate and your official birth certificate filed through the public registrar.

Labor and Delivery

Arriving at the Hospital

Call the OB unit to inform them you are on your way at 805-737-3395. Don't worry if you don't have time to call, our staff are always ready and waiting to help you. Remember to drive safely. When you arrive at the hospital, it is best to come in through the Emergency Room entrance.

Labor Pain Management

Whether you prefer natural methods or medication for pain relief, our staff is here to support your choices. As labor progresses and the uterine contractions intensify, your nurse, your Obstetrician, and your Anesthesia provider may give you other options to lessen the pain. These options include short-acting narcotics, regional anesthetics (epidural), and local anesthetics to help manage your pain.

Postpartum Care

We encourage mother-baby bonding during the "Golden Hour" and provide routine newborn care in your LDRP suite.

National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification

We are committed to promoting safe sleep practices to reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID).

Postpartum Depression or "Baby Blues"

We understand that postpartum depression can affect many women, and our team is here to provide support and resources during this challenging time.
