A one-time Red Cross volunteer, Jackie Melone was eager to help at the new Lompoc hospital when it opened eight years ago. “I thought it was a wonderful thing to do,” she said. “I like to give back to the community. They needed volunteers. I’ve enjoyed it ever since.”

A Lompoc resident for 40years, Jackie previously volunteered with PCPA. As a military wife, she volunteered with the Red Cross. Jackie now volunteers at the same two-hour shift as her partner, Art Baumach. He works in the medical-surgical waiting room while she’s at the registration desk.

“I enjoy meeting people and helping them,” she says. “I help them get where they need to go. I mostly do greeting. I know most of the people who come here.”
