Patient Story: Brittanii Hodges

Written by Jeremy Farnum on in Patient Stories

A special thank you to Brittanii Hodges, who took time to offer up a public thank you on social media to the caring nurses of Lompoc Valley Medical Center Critical Care Unit. Brittani’s daughter, Ava, turned 7 on Sunday and was treated to a rousing celebration from nursing staff and Dr. Cindy Blifeld. Brittanii had been in the CCU with Ava’s newborn sister, Zoe, since last week and had worried about not being able to gather presents for her oldest daughter.

The nursing staff, Brittanii said, “made sure to make her feel loved and not forgotten. They gave her gifts and even wrapped them in gowns and what, not they found around the hospital. I’m forever grateful for them for making my girl feel special. The look on her face was worth it. Thank you, Lompoc Hospital!”

Little Ava was delighted to open a canvas painting kit, a My Little Pet Shop collection and a Bejeweled game. The nurses also brought candy sprinkles to decorate Ava’s cake. “It was just awesome everyone came together,” Brittanii said Monday. “It really meant a lot. I didn’t want her to feel like she was any less important” than her newborn sister.

Both Ava and Zoe were born at Lompoc Valley Medical Center. Zoe was born August 17 with health complications. She was airlifted to the UCLA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and returned to Lompoc last week to be at home with family.

“The hospital has been very supportive,” Brittani said, noting that Labor and Delivery staff also visited Zoe in the Critical Care Unit. Thank you, Brittanii, for sharing your story and photos.
