Volunteer Spotlight: Beverly Timmons

on in Staff Spotlight

When her son graduated high school, Beverly Timmons realized she wouldn’t be volunteering for PTA, band boosters or Madrigals any longer. So she started to look around town to find another place to spend her free time. The former teacher found that place in early 2014 --- the Lompoc Valley Medical Center gift shop. The gift shop, inside the acute hospital between registration and the café, is staffed by volunteers from the Lompoc Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.

Beverly, who moved to Lompoc in 1986, is vice president of the Women’s Auxiliary.

She currently works the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. gift shop shift on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of the month.

“It’s dangerous working here,” she said. “You see what there is. I don’t need it, but I want it.”

She likes the flexibility it affords her, especially knowing there are other volunteers to help out if she needs to miss her shift.

The gift shop, she explained, is a non-profit, and all the proceeds are donated to the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation, which uses the funds to pay for projects and equipment for the hospital and CCC.

Beverly has helped the gift shop create its raffle baskets and also puts together the “grab bag” sale items.

“It’s a creative outlet and a social outlet,” she says. “I get to meet people. It’s nice. I enjoy working with the people and putting out the displays.”
