About the Flu
What is Influenza (Flu)?
Influenza, commonly called "the flu," is caused by the influenza virus, which infects the respiratory system. Unlike other viral respiratory infections like the common cold, the flu can be life-threatening.
How does flu spread?
Typically, flu viruses spread by droplets from coughing, sneezing or even just talking. The flu can also be spread through touch. By touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching your own eyes, mouth or nose. This is why hand hygiene is so important in preventing the spread of not only the flu but many other illnesses.
