Total Knee Replacement Guide
The following information is intended to provide you with a general overview of the knee joint.
The knee is a "hinge" joint that does have some rotational ability. The knee is lined with a special tissue called articulator cartilage. Wearing away of this cartilage results in a "bone on bone" situation which leads to pain and stiffness. Over time, this "bone on bone" condition can damage the knee to the point where it does not function and must be replaced.
Total knee replacement surgery will replace the worn out knee with a prosthesis or "artificial knee." The prosthesis is very strong and durable, and custom fit by your physician to fit your body.
