What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my fur babies. I enjoy the outdoors and trying new things! The beach is definitely my happy place. I also really enjoy working on projects, whether it is a fun thing I find on Pinterest I want to make, helping friends with home repairs, or various woodworking projects, it is a great way to be productive and creative!
What is your favorite quote or motto?
There is something that came to me in nursing school; it has always been how I try to live, but finally was able to put it into words. "Always let your passion drive you and your compassion guide you."
What is your favorite part about your job?
There are several favorite parts about my job, picking just one is impossible! I absolutely love being a nurse in a small community hospital, especially since it is the community I grew up in. I love being able to make a difference, to have a positive impact on people and making that genuine connection with them; it is great when I get to run into them around town and see how they are doing. I think it is a beautiful thing we get to do -- we get to take of people during the worst moments of their lives and care for them with their medical needs but also be there for them not just as patients but as people.
I can't tell you how many times some of the things my patients need most is just someone to spend time talking with them and showing they care. I love being a Med-Surg nurse, and I love that I have had the opportunities to grow in my profession and ‘float’ to other departments; I have been blessed to also become a couplet care nurse in OB (they have given me a second home in the hospital) and float on occasion to the Emergency Department, where I get to experience a different kind of nursing.
I love my night crew and the team we are -- we care about each other and our patients and support each other in order to make each shift successful.
