But for the past 3 ½ years, she’s been in LVMC’s dietary services department, ensuring patient meals are put together and delivered.
The 2012 Cabrillo High School graduate said that she likes that it’s busy in the kitchen, particularly when she’s prepping trays or stocking clinical departments with snacks and drinks for patients.
“I always like to help people and make them happy,” she says. “I like to be able to learn new things.”
Compared to working in commercial food businesses, a hospital environment is educational, because she’s learning what foods patients can have as they heal.
“This is my favorite position in the kitchen,” Michelle explains. “I like it and feel I’m really good at it.”
She also appreciates that the hospital is relatively small, and that the hectic times are offset with calmer periods. Often times, she can be seen transporting large carts of food trays down the hallway to the patient areas.
She also said she likes that “everybody is friendly.”
