“Brenda is an amazing nurse to work with,” her nomination read. “She is gentle, kind, hands-on and patient. She is so helpful and makes our jobs easier. She is a wonderful supervisor and great asset to our facility. We are lucky to have her!”
Brenda has been a registered nurse for about 10 years. She was hired about 12 years ago at the CCC as a Certified Nursing Assistant and then attended the nursing program at Allan Hancock College.
She says she became a nurse because she “wanted to help people. I really still do.”
Brenda previously also worked for a decade in urgent care at the former Sansum Multi-Speciality Clinic. Since last June, she’s been full-time at the CCC.
“I love the staff; it’s like a family here,” said Brenda, the mother of a 1-year-old son. “I love the residents and being able to help them. I don’t see myself doing anything else.”
She said even the smallest gesture, such as giving a resident a cup of water, provides instant gratification.
“It’s fulfillment in your heart that you’re doing the right thing,” she says.
