September Heat Wave Advisory

September is starting off with a sizzle, as a wave of high pressure descends over the western US. So that means it’s time to take extra care with your health. Extreme heat warnings issued by the weather service suggest staying indoors, drinking extra fluids and easing off on excessive outdoor physical activity during the times when temperatures are hitting and exceeding triple digits.

Forecasters are projecting the Lompoc Valley to see temperatures of 92 degrees on Friday; 90 on Saturday; 83 on Sunday and 80 on Monday, with temperatures above average into next week.

Inland temperatures are anticipated to be well above 100 degrees, with 111 projected Saturday for Paso Robles. Law enforcement officials are warning that very high temperatures create a dangerous situation in which heat-related illnesses are possible. Temperatures inside vehicles, even if the windows are slightly open, can reach life-threatening levels.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Dangerously high temperatures can result in heat‐related illnesses ranging from heat cramps to heat exhaustion and heat stroke and might send you to the Emergency Department for medical assistance.

Our tips for staying cool we posted back in June are still relevant during our September heatwave.
