COVID-19 Information
For the states that have more than 1,000 individuals hospitalized for Covid as of October 23, let’s look at 1) the number of hospitalized patients, 2) the population of the state, 3) per capita hospitalized Covid patients, 4) the total number of hospital beds in the state, and 5) percent of total hospital beds in use for Covid. The states are rank-ordered in descending order by per capita hospitalized patients.
In summary, of the 12 states with more than 1,000 hospitalized patients on 10/23/20 (I didn’t check the other states), California has the lowest per capita number of hospitalized patients (77 hospitalized patients per 1 Million population). In addition, only 6.8% of California’s hospital beds are presently occupied by Covid patients (of course certain “hot spots” will have a higher percentage).
As of today, there are 10 Covid positive patients hospitalized in Santa Barbara County (one of the ten is at LVMC). That is another nice drop from 14 last week. Based upon the county population of 415,000, that equates to a rate of 24 hospitalized patients per 1 Million population. That is a 69% lower rate than California overall.
