COVID-19 Vaccinations for Children Ages 6 Months to 5 Years

Appointments may now be made at two Lompoc Health sites for children ages 6 months to 5 years to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Vaccinations will begin July 8.

Vaccinations provided at Lompoc Health clinics for this age group will be available to existing and newly establishing patients of Lompoc Health pediatricians.

At Lompoc Health – North Third Center, Vaccination Clinics will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. on Fridays. Call (805) 736-1253 to make an appointment.

At Lompoc Health – North H Center, Vaccination Clinics will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Please call 805-737-8760.

All children ages 6 months and older, including children who have already had COVID-19, should get vaccinated.

Children under 5 years of age may receive one-tenth of the adult dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in a 3-shot series. Alternatively, children 5 years of age and younger may receive one-quarter of the adult dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in a 2-shot series. Smaller needles, designed specifically for children, are used for this age group. COVID-19 vaccine dosage does not vary by patient weight but by age on the day of vaccination. According to the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup, since March 2020 approximately 2,000,000 cases of COVID-19 have occurred among those less than 5 years of age in the U.S, resulting in approximately 20,000 hospitalizations and approximately 200 deaths, and that there have been a disproportionate number of COVID-19-related hospitalizations and deaths among African-American, Hispanic-Latino and Native American children in this age group.

Parents may also visit https://myturn.ca.gov to see where vaccines for children are available. Other pediatric providers in the community will also be providing vaccinations for this age group, so please check with your pediatric provider.
