The Comprehensive Care Center -- Lompoc Valley Medical Center’s skilled nursing facility -- announces a collaboration with Lompoc Adult School and Career Center to train students desiring careers as Certified Nursing Assistants.
Anyone age 18 and older interested in becoming a CNA in the skilled nursing facility will attend a newly created Pre-Certified Nursing Assistant course at Lompoc Adult School.
Successful completion of the self-paced program will enable students to earn an Adult School certification and gain a recommendation for the CCC’s paid 8-week Nursing Assistant Training Program.
During the Lompoc Adult School course, students will learn the basics of nurse assisting, including medical terminology, care procedures, legal and ethical responsibilities, gerontology, nutrition, employability skills and more. Prior medical training is not required.
Applications for the dual Adult School/CCC program, called the Nursing Assistant Training Program, may be found at lompocvmc.com under the “Careers” heading.
Once students complete the Adult School portion of the program, they may qualify for the CCC’s paid training course, which includes 60 theory hours and 100 clinical hours. If chosen for the CCC program, individuals must pass a physical exam which includes a drug screen, background check, provide two references, and documentation of ability to legally work for LVMC, along with COVID-19 vaccination status.
During on-site CCC classroom training – including lectures and hands-on demonstrations --students will learn all aspects of patient care. Students will progress to clinical training by providing care to CCC residents.
The CCC program classes will take place starting Aug. 1 and will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is limited to 15 students.
Upon successful completion of the CCC course, students will undergo State Board testing. Upon passing the state exams, students will then be employed at the CCC as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
