Lompoc seniors are invited to attend “Nourish Lompoc: Veggie Soup edition” on Jan. 20, 2024 at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center.
The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and RSVPs are recommended, but not required. The center is located at 1120 W. Ocean Ave. Space will be limited and on a first-come, first-served basis for those who do not register in advance.
This unique community experience will blend nutritional education with hands-on learning, using locally sourced fresh produce.
In collaboration with Veggie Rescue, the event will include the use of surplus food to make a hearty, delicious and nutritious soup. Veggie Rescue is a non-profit organization in Santa Barbara County that rescues perishable local produce and delivers it to organizations providing support for low-income families, youth, seniors and those facing housing insecurity.
This session will provide basic cooking skill demonstrations, nutrition knowledge and access to locally grown, rescued produce. Guided by instructors, attendees will learn how to turn surplus, seasonal produce into delicious, healthy soup. Attendees must participate in the education class in order to take freshly made soup home at the conclusion of the event.
Nourish Lompoc is part of the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation Community Education Lecture Series and is in collaboration with Route 1 Farmers Market, Veggie Rescue and the City of Lompoc Parks and Recreation division.
