BEE Award Announced

Congratulations to Lompoc Health – North H Center Medical Assistant Zviya McNeal on being named recipient of the “BEE” award, for “Being Exceptional Everyday.”

Zviya, who works with Dr. Richard Rooney in the Orthopedic service, was nominated for the award by a patient.

The BEE Award honors patient care by non-nursing staff who assist a patient in delivering excellent patient care. The non-nursing staff can include registration staff, patient financial services, Environmental Services, Information Services, Health Information Management, Dietary and more.

“She is truly an angel sent from God,” the patient nomination stated. “When she first entered my room, I immediately felt relaxed. Although I am terribly fatigued and in much pain, Zviya quickly put me at ease with her gentle manner, her kind face and warm hands. I can see that she loves people and is very respectful. She is kind, warm, compassionate and a very caring person.”

The patient said she felt immediately as if she were in good hands.

“I did not feel like a number, but felt like she genuinely cared for me and my welfare,” the patient said in her nomination form. “She has made a big difference in my life.”

Zviya has been a Lompoc Health employee since it opened in January 2019, and was previously employed in the same location when the facility was under the ownership of Sansum Clinic.

She became emotional when the award was announced, and said it humbled her.

“I look at all patients the same,” said Zviya. “They come in pain and they need our care and our love and our expertise.”

She added that she wants patients to know “we do care. They do matter to us.”

She said patients often come to her area crying and in pain. She tells them to ask for her if they need anything, and she pledges to “do the best” for them.

The BEE nominations follow the “PETALS” principles, for the employee showing passion/compassion in the care they provide; establishing a special connection using kindness and providing emotional support; showing teamwork; always creating the best experience; love for their job and showing respect.

Zviya was presented with a special statue to commemorate her award, as well as a Bee-themed badge holder.
