Department Directors and/or designees met to discuss the status of staff for all LVMC entities and services for the remainder of the day and this evening. All areas are adequately staffed as of this time. LVMC will continue to watch the progress of the fire and determine if further action is needed.
Due to the current fires down south and locally, the Air Quality Index for Vandeberg Space Force Base is 124, indicating Unhealthy Air Levels for Sensitive Groups. It is recommended for people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens to take any of these steps to reduce your exposure:
- Choose less strenuous activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard.
- Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
- Be active outdoors when air quality is better.

In response to the ongoing fire near Vandenberg Village and the mandatory evacuations of South Vandenberg Village, Lompoc Valley Medical Center (LVMC) has activated a ‘Modified’ Hospital Incident Command System (HICS). This decision underscores LVMC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its patients, staff, and the surrounding community.
The activation of HICS enhances LVMC’s ability to efficiently allocate resources, monitor potential impacts on staffing, and maintain continuity of patient care throughout this emergency.
