Resources, support offered at Free Caregiver Information Session

Caregivers are invited to a special evening in Lompoc on Nov. 19, 2024 to learn more about community resources, hear personal stories and partake in a wellness activity.

The two-hour free event begins at 5 p.m. at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center, 1120 W. Ocean Ave. Reservations are now being taken for the evening, which will include a light meal, raffles, a caregiver gift and socialization time. The Caregiver Information Session is designed to equip caregivers with the knowledge and tools needed to continue providing care to a loved one.

Attendees will listen to an emotional personal story, participate in a wellness activity, share information with others and receive helpful resources. Panel presentations will include information from community resource providers and private care providers, including De Rosenberry with Family Service Agency, Renee Kuhlman with Coast Caregiver Resource Center, Midge Nicosia with Community Partners in Caring and others. Cassandra Pence with Superior Home Health will share her personal story of caregiving and Santa Barbara County’s Kerrie Garrison will speak to veteran-specific needs.

Debbie McComb, with Compass Plus, will provide information on legacy planning. There will also be a panel presentation by private care providers, including LVMC’s Comprehensive Care Center, Assisted Home Health and Hospice and Superior Home Health.

On-site respite care will be available. Transportation courtesy of Community Partners in Caring will be offered only if arranged in advance by calling 805-925-8000.

This event is part of the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation Community Education Lecture Series, with generous sponsorship by Superior Home Health and Hospice.

The event is offered in conjunction with the City of Lompoc and its Lompoc Parks and Recreation Division, LVCHO’s Healthy Lompoc Coalition, Coast Caregiver Resource Center, Caring Together Santa Barbara County, Community Partners in Caring, Family Service Agency and the Alzheimer’s Association, among others.

The event is free of charge, but reservations are strongly encouraged by calling 805-737-5762 or emailing LVMC Outreach Coordinator Susan Xiong at xiongsu@lhdfoundation.com. Information is also available at www.lompocvmc.com/events.
