Honoring LVMC BEE Awardee
Lompoc Valley Medical Center congratulates Emergency Department Ward Clerk Jessica Valenzuela on being honored with the “BEE” Award for “Being Exceptional Everyday.”
The BEE Award honors patient care by non-nursing staff who assist a patient in delivering excellent patient care.
Jessica was nominated to receive the award by a coworker. It was presented Tuesday by her supervisor and a group of BEE Committee members.
“Jess can juggle a chaotic department seamlessly,” the nomination noted. “She can field multiple requests at once while keeping clear communication with all staff.”
The nomination noted that Jess always goes “above and beyond” in her role.
“Despite increased activity/volume in the ER, it is easy to spot Jess cleaning rooms and making beds without being asked. “When the ER is out of gurneys, Jess is already half-way to the OR to grab one before anyone has made a move.”
The nomination also noted that Jess helps keep the department organized and on track.
“When I see Jess in the morning, I know my day is going to be significantly better because of her positive attitude and hard work. She is kind and thorough when interacting with both patients and staff alike.”
Jessica has been employed with LVMC for about a year, and previously was a Certified Nursing Assistant at a hospital in Los Angeles.
“I felt I could make a difference helping with the care in the ED,” explained Jessica, a 2007 graduate of Lompoc High School. “I’m a very caring person.”
She said she was surprised by the recognition.
“It’s very exciting,” she said.
She enjoys working in the Emergency Department, she said, with “people being helpful and working together to make things flow better.” She wanted to work in healthcare since she was a child. Her aunt was a nurse, and Jessica said she liked to follow her aunt around at work.
The BEE nominations follow the “PETALS” principles, for the employee showing passion/compassion in the care they provide; establishing a special connection using kindness and providing emotional support; showing teamwork; always creating the best experience; love for their job and showing respect. Jessica received a special BEE pin and a sculpture.
