Surgeon of Excellence

Lompoc Valley Medical Center’s Dr. Christopher Taglia has been named a “Surgeon of Excellence” in Robotic Surgery by the internally recognized Surgical Review Corp.

Dr. Taglia came to Lompoc Valley Medical Center in September 2019 as a general, minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon. To qualify as a Surgeon of Excellence, Dr. Taglia was required to complete a variety of cases using the hospital’s Intuitive da Vinci XI Single Console Robotic System, as well as having his cases reviewed by the SRC.

The Surgical Review Corp. is a nonprofit patient safety organization that administers accreditation programs for surgeons and hospitals to improve the safety and quality of patient care.

During his time at LVMC, Dr. Taglia has completed almost 2,300 surgeries or procedures. Since the first LVMC robotic surgery in September 2021, he has conducted 508 robotic surgeries, including bariatric surgery, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, colon surgery, and other GI-related surgery.

Dr. Taglia earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida with a degree in biology and Spanish. Dr. Taglia attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He completed his residency in general surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, with work in general surgery, trauma, laparoscopy, and endoscopy. He completed a fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in Long Island, New York in minimally invasive and bariatric surgeries. His specialties include advanced laparoscopic surgery, weight-loss surgery, endoscopy, anti-reflux surgery, and hernia repair.

Surgery performed with LVMC’s Intuitive da Vinci XI Single Console Robotic System will typically result in shorter hospitalization stays, reduced pain and discomfort for the patient, faster recovery time, smaller incisions and minimal scarring.

Dr. Taglia is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
