Sleep Apnea Diagnosis and Treatment
About This Event
- Event Type:Health Lecture
Are you someone who snores loudly? Do you feel tired after a full night’s sleep? You may have sleep apnea, a condition that causes you to stop breathing when you’re sleeping. While sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder, there are options for treatment.
Come hear an expert discuss the types of sleep apnea:
• Obstructive Sleep Apnea: This is a more common form that occurs when the throat muscles relax and block the flow of air into the lungs
• Central Sleep Apnea: This occurs when the brain does not send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing
• Treatment-emergent central sleep apnea: This is also called complex sleep apnea.
Guest speaker Dr. Hsien C. Young is board certified in neurology and sleep medicine and is Medical Director for SleepMed in Santa Barbara. Dr. Young will also educate the audience about various treatments, including nonmedical treatments, adaptive ventilation devices, mouthpieces, surgery and medications.
