The new equipment is being used in the Operating Room and at a patient’s bedside. Called a “C-Arm” because of its distinctive curved look, it is used for fracture repairs that require surgery, such as hip, ankle, wrist or hand fractures; for gallbladder surgery; for specific endoscopic procedures and for spinal surgery, among others.

Members of the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation are actively raising money to help give the 110-bed Comprehensive Care Center a major makeover. The foundation is now more than a year into its capital campaign toward the much-anticipated renovation project. Foundation President Alice Milligan is reaching out into the community to urge donations to the $1.5 million campaign, noting that most of the rooms have not been remodeled since the building opened more than 40 years ago.

In 2005, more than 87 percent of the district voters approved the issuance of general obligation bonds not to exceed $74.5 million for the construction of the new state-of-the-art hospital at 1515 E. Ocean Ave. The 60-bed general acute care hospital opened in June 2010. But while the bond paid for the construction of the hospital, state law prohibits bond money from behind used to purchase moveable furniture or equipment.

Three-phased 3,950-square-foot expansion. Estimated cost $1.4 million. The expansion and modernization included eight patient treatment areas. Those areas encompass two trauma and cardiac units; an orthopedic area; an emergency radiology suite; greater visibility of patients by physician and nursing staff; patient and staff privacy and security; ear, nose and throat treatment rooms; obstetrics and gynecology and observation rooms; an improved and comfortable family lobby; separate walk-in and ambulance entrances; monitoring equipment and technology. Project completed in December 1992.
