While our residents cannot own pets, we are delighted to help them enjoy the benefits of being around animals by offering pet therapy.
Pets provide companionship, a sense of purpose, social engagement, and opportunities to remain active.
The Benefits of Pets
Research shows that seniors who spend time with animals are more engaged, cope better with stress, and are healthier overall. Being around pets also has the following beneficial effects on physical and mental well-being:
- Reduced loneliness
- Reduced feelings of hopelessness
- A Strengthened sense of purpose
- Increased activity levels
- Reduced stress and depression
- Increased motivation to stay independent, if possible
Additionally, we have noticed that positive interactions with pets can translate into positive human interactions.
