CCC Impromptu Car Rally

Vilinda Shaner Read wanted to do something to cheer up her brother Bill, who is being cared for at the Comprehensive Care Center and unable to have visitors due to the COVID-19 virus and visitor restrictions.

So Vilinda took to local Facebook forums and organized a car rally for her brother, who has spent his life collecting and racing cars.

Despite the rain, a group of fellow car aficionados showed up at the CCC on Sunday afternoon to drive by and give Bill a look at their cars.

“It makes me feel good,” said Bill, whose first car was a 1963 “Orange Peel” Corvette. “I miss it.”

Karla and Glen Corrales showed up with their Dodge Challenger “ScatPack” and Dodge Hellcat. They don’t even know Bill.

“This is the first time I’ve seen him this excited about anything in a long, long time,” she said. “He hasn’t felt well. He doesn’t want to get out of bed. This is his world (cars).”

Breaking into tears, she added, “I’m at a loss for words. This is the first time I’ve seen him so motivated. He misses his cars. I have to take pictures and show him, ‘Your babies are all OK.’”

Karla Corrales said she hopes to keep the rallies going throughout the week if she can.
