Sansum Clinic Transition
Lompoc Valley Medical Center (LVMC) will be acquiring ownership of Sansum’s Lompoc facility at 1225 N H St. The plan is to transition all Sansum Clinic Physicians to professional service agreements and employment of Sansum Clinic staff to LVMC.
The content below will be updated regularly to provide patients with current and accurate information regarding the transition of services.
On Wednesday, November 28, 2018 LVMC Board of Directors approved the purchase of the Lompoc Sansum Clinic at 1225 North H Street. The board authorized CEO Jim Raggio to negotiate the purchase of the 15-year-old, 30,908-square-foot building and its interior assets for the projected purchase price of $8.75 million.
Escrow is expected to be finalized by January 2, 2019. Once completed, the transition will include the employment of 50 non-clinical full-time and two part-time Sansum employees.
"This will allow LVMC to solidify the physician coverage and stabilize primary care and urgent care for all residents of the District. We are pleased that the Board and Management have been able to operate, over the past years, in such a manner that we are able to make this purchase and ancillary transaction from existing cash reserves, with no additional financing required."

Plan for Transition
It is our primary goal to provide all Lompoc Sansum patients with a smooth and seamless transition. The tentative plan is to finish the transition from Sansum to Lompoc Valley Medical Center in early January 2019.
All the Sansum Clinic staff have been offered jobs with LVMC, and most will remain working at the clinic. The transition to LVMC will allow at least 50 jobs to stay in Lompoc.
"The transition provides stability to a quality physician network and assures our community maintains access to local high-quality healthcare services, it preserves more than 50 jobs in Lompoc. We will continue to partner with Sansum Clinic and Cottage Health, which provide specialty care not available in Lompoc. "
- Jim Raggio
After the transition, all current Sansum insurance contracts will be accepted, even the HMO plans. We plan to work with Sansum to keep the HMO plans in Lompoc long term. Patients can keep their current insurance and will not see any changes. There will be no changes that will affect the AARP Medicare Advantage group; it will continue to be available in Lompoc.
Physicians and Providers
All efforts are being made to increase access to a stable group of quality physicians in Lompoc. We have actively recruited several new primary-care and specialist physicians to the area.
Newly Recruited Providers:
- Dr. Sylvia Krzeminski, MD. (Jan. 2019)
- Dr. Angie Song, MD (2019)
- Dr. Sheppard Peng, MD ( Fall 2019)
- Dr. Richard Rooney, MD (2019)
- Dr. Virna Veloso, MD (Currently working at Sansum)
- Lisa Ryavec, PA-C (Currently working at Sansum)
When the transition is completed, most patients will be able to keep their doctor. Almost all the physicians and physician assistants who were practicing at Sansum Clinic in Lompoc will remain. However, Dr. Richard Onishi and Dr. Sharon Kim have already made plans to relocate out of the area.
