Injury and illness can cause both frustration and pain when it comes to performing everyday tasks. This can lead to a lack of both independence and confidence. That’s why our Lompoc physical therapists are committed to helping patients manage and modify daily tasks, so they can resume activities and live more comfortable, independent lives.
If you have been living with discomfort that impedes you from completing your daily tasks with ease, a physical therapist can help provide pain relieving treatments that focus on increasing your mobility, strength, and endurance. A physical therapist can prescribe targeted stretches and exercises to ease pain and promote movement. Musculoskeletal injuries – those involving the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, or ligaments – represent some of the most common reasons why people seek care from a healthcare provider. Musculoskeletal disorders are increasing and will likely continue to rise; in fact, some estimates have found that 3 out of 4 Americans over age 65 suffer from some type of musculoskeletal (also known as “orthopedic”) problem.
When it comes to managing musculoskeletal disorders, orthopedic physical therapy can be extremely beneficial. In fact, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends physical therapy over prescription pain medications when it comes to addressing orthopedic injuries and chronic pain conditions.
Orthopedic physical therapists offer both inpatient and outpatient treatment methods. We provide relieving techniques to the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and work closely with your other medical providers to help you achieve the following movement goals:
Any condition involving the musculoskeletal system can be addressed by our physical therapists. These include, but are not limited to, the following orthopedic problems:
You can use this interactive guide created by the American Physical Therapy Association to learn more about specific conditions and how you or your loved ones may benefit from orthopedic physical therapy.
Furthermore, our experienced staff of physical therapists are all highly skilled at performing targeted techniques to help you reach your movement goals, based on the nature of the injury or condition you’re experiencing. These techniques include, but are not limited to:
Typically, you are referred to one of our physical therapists by your primary care provider or orthopedic specialist. At your initial visit, you will undergo a comprehensive evaluation regarding your musculoskeletal concern. Your physical therapist will then discuss the results of the evaluation with you and recommend a treatment plan.
This treatment plan will be carried out over a specific duration of time, either in an inpatient or outpatient setting. Some parts of your physical therapy plan may also be completed at home, for added comfort and routine consistency.
Your physical therapist will make sure you feel safe and comfortable carrying out your treatment plan, and you will have the opportunity to try out new exercises or techniques under your PT’s guidance. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and take an active role in creating your treatment plan, based on your health history, needs, and goals.
At Lompoc Valley Medical Center, we aim to partner with you to help you reach your mobility goals. If you think you or a loved one may benefit from physical therapy in Lompoc, make an appointment to consult with a primary care provider or any of our orthopedic specialists.
